Shared Services

A decade ago, 2016, Rep. Smitty Pignatelli, advocated for the consolidation of administrative services emphasizing efficiency and cost savings. Specifically, Pignatelli suggested a shared administrative officer for the towns of Lee, Lenox, and Stockbridge, While Stockbridge resisted, and voted against the suggestion at Town Meeting, Lee and Lenox moved forward with plans to share a town administrator.

Legislation Signed — In 2016, a bill was signed allowing Lee and Lenox to share a town administrator, reflecting a step towards regional collaboration.

The experiment began in 2017 when Lee and Lenox commenced sharing a town administrator.

Four years later, in 2021, they voted unanimously to cease the agreement. Neither the cost savings nor the satisfaction with the service provided met expectations.
