Parks and Recreation Commission, January 5, 2026, Hybrid meeting

  • Solar Lights for Skating Rink will be motion activated for further savings
  • Updates on Pavilion that is slated to be built in the Town Offices Park. Money was approved by Community Preservation Committee (CPC) as a recommendation to Town Meeting
  • Linda Barbadoro reported on the Easter Egg Hunt planned for spring perhaps in partnership with Stockbridge Library
  • Ice sculpture show in partnership with library: purchase a hot cocoa stand
  • Open Gym Hours on Saturdays discussed by Johanna Lenski.
  • Under Katie Szwyd chairmanship, the number and variety of events and activities is multiplying. Anita Schwerner offered to include them in her weekly email and Katie asked if Stockbridge Updates would as well.
    Editor’s note: Chair will forward schedule, and SU is pleased to add Stockbridge Parks and Rec Commission activities as a regular listing under Events.
  • Commission member Johanna Lenski described a “Dance Workshop in the Park” conducted by the Intrinsic Movement Experience. Barbadoro asked if the instructor was insured and offered that ACT Insurance offers coverage for a day if artists and crafts people want protection for an event. The Chair asked if there was a charge. Lenski said it was free to the public. A motion was made to allow the Dance in the Park probably at the Town Office’s park. Motion to allow the dancing in the park event passed.
  • Disc Golf Course was discussed and it was decided to install a bulletin board with information rather than having signs at each “basket.”
  • The Chair said she would apply for 3 trees from the number that National Grid is providing under the “Conservation Commission Tree Allowance” to replace trees National Grid removed.

Stockbridge Updates Statement of Purpose

To inform without opinion or pressure and give the people of Stockbridge the facts they need to make informed decisions.

To provide space for opinion, but since facts and opinions are different, to clearly mark opinion pieces, and clearly identify the opinion holder.

Stockbridge Updates is a periodic newsletter delivered through email.

Stockbridge Updates Policy with Respect to Submissions

SU welcomes your letters and other submissions on all Stockbridge subjects, history and current events, news and human interest, whatever is on your mind. As with articles and opinion pieces, letters are 400 words or less, no personal attacks, and always attach your name. SU does not include personal information and will delete telephone numbers, email addresses, post office boxes, and street addresses. Limit one submission per month.

Stockbridge Updates: Format

SU is attempting to present a consistent format for readers. SU begins with its Table of Contents. The SU Editorial is next and then the News. News is divided between one-time events, such as the election and events around town, and recurring reporting, such as the Notes from… section. It is called Notes from… because SU attends the town meetings, takes notes, and reports what happened. If SU has a comment or question, it is at the end of the meeting identified as Editor’s Comment or Editor’s Question. The next section is Contributors. Under contributors, you may find Stockbridge history, opinion pieces, or information from a Committee Chair or elected official. Our final section is Reader to Reader, our letter section. The issue closes with the SU Statement of Purpose and Policy for Contributors. We welcome all letter writers and contributors; deadline on the 10th for the issue posted on the 15th of the month and on the 26th for the issue posted on the first.
