News from Lee

Lee’s Founders Weekend was September 19 and 20 with a parade and “A taste of Lee.” It was the 249th anniversary of its founding. Lee was settled in 1760 and called Dodgetown after the first settler Asahel Dodge. Lee was cobbled together out of pieces that were formerly part of Washington and Great Barrington. It was officially incorporated and named after Revolutionary War General Charles Lee in 1777.

Founders Weekend is an annual event. Main Street is roped off and the people flood the street, eating, laughing, and generally having a good old-fashioned time – no technology necessary.

But wait – there was supposed to be more. Events planned for Sunday, September 21, were archetypal New England small town, but so was the weather. Cancelled were: a dog parade, a cornhole tournament, and a rubber duck race. What could say New England village more clearly?
