News from Great Barrington

A bus called The Connector serves seven Southern Berkshire towns: Great Barrington, Egremont, Monterey, Sheffield, Stockbridge, West Stockbridge, and New Marlborough. It is an on-demand microtransit service, allowing riders to schedule trips via a mobile app. Fares range from $2 to $5 per ride, depending on the distance traveled. Monthly usage averages between 2,200 to 2,500 rides each month, indicating strong community reliance.

Recently Great Barrington abruptly changed the service, and it is unknown what service will be like in the future. As the six communities wait, the Stockbridge Select Board was concerned that Stockbridge residents are not “left high and dry,” and discussed alternate transportation to doctor’s appointments, shopping, etc. The other towns may also be experiencing an unmet need as well.
